Make a check mark with word 2011 for mac

The problem that I have run into is that I created a Circle and a Dot using the insert Symbols function in Word 2010.

I am working with a Microsoft Word document that I originally created using Microsoft Word 2010 (Windows) on Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate operating system, but am now working with this document using Microsoft Word 2011 (Mac) on a Late 2013 Macbook Pro.
